Register nowThe InterCityExpress (ICE) entered service with the 1991 summer timetable (Hamburg–Munich via Hanover) and revolutionised German express services along the lines of the French TGV — albeit with a German design principle: power-car formations (ICE 1, ICE 2) instead of distributed-traction multiple units. Only with the ICE 3 did DB switch to distributed traction.
The ICE is part of Germany's railway identity — see the overview of all H0 models from Germany and the DB AG collection for complementary ICE coaches, locomotives and formations. In an international high-speed context the ICE sits alongside the French TGV. ICE generations span Eras V and VI.
