Register nowAll H0 models in the alternating current (AC) system at a glance: locomotives, coaches and starter sets for the three-rail system with centre conductor in 1:87 scale. Alternating current is the Märklin system and is also offered by many other manufacturers as an AC version.
The alternating current (AC) system with centre conductor is the classic Märklin system. Power is supplied via a centre pickup shoe under the locomotive, with the two outer rails as the return conductor. This system offers advantages with reversing loop wiring and is particularly robust in operation.
The most important AC manufacturer is Märklin with the in-house mfx decoder and the C-track system. In addition, many DC manufacturers such as Roco, Fleischmann, Piko and Brawa also offer their models as an AC version. Digital control is handled via mfx or DCC, operated through the Märklin Central Station or compatible command stations. The AC system is particularly suited to collectors who value the self-contained Märklin ecosystem.
