H0 Models from Canada

Canada has its own H0 scene next to the USA — Rapido Trains, one of the world's most important premium manufacturers, is based in Toronto. CN, CP/CPKC and VIA Rail define the Canadian rail identity; characteristic are wide-cab diesel locomotives, F40PH/F59PHI and the transcontinental "The Canadian" passenger train.

The Canadian rail network is dominated by two Class I railroads — Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), merged in 2023 from CP and KCS — plus VIA Rail for long-distance passenger service. Power systems are primarily diesel; only a few commuter operations (GO Transit Toronto, Exo Montreal) and the Quebec–Windsor corridor are partially electrified. Characteristic of Canada are the wide-cab designs of GMD/EMD diesels with spacious cabs for winter operations.

Canadian railway operators

  • CN – Canadian National — Canada's largest Class I, transcontinental from Halifax to Vancouver and deep into the USA to New Orleans.
  • CP – Canadian Pacific / CPKC — the historic transcontinental railway from 1885, merged in 2023 with Kansas City Southern to form CPKC.
  • VIA Rail Canada — national passenger carrier since 1977, operating "The Canadian" (Toronto–Vancouver) and "Ocean" (Montreal–Halifax).
