Model cars

Model cars belong to the H0 world just like the railway itself: in 1:87 scale, cars and vans, trucks, city buses and coaches, fire brigade, THW and many special vehicles bring the layout's streets to life – and form a collecting field with a long tradition of its own.

Model cars in 1:87 scale

H0 scale 1:87 is where model railways and model cars meet: no other car-model scale offers comparable variety. Whether as layout scenery or as a display-case collection, practically every vehicle type is available in miniature, from small cars to heavy haulage.

All segments at a glance

Model cars are far more than passenger cars: cars & vans and trucks form the backbone of road traffic, while city buses and coaches bring public transport to the layout. Add emergency vehicles of the fire brigade, police, ambulance services and THW, plus construction and agricultural machines and military vehicles. Theme pages such as the taxi models bundle special collecting fields.

The key manufacturers

The classic of the genre is Wiking, whose models have shaped the scale for decades. Herpa stands for finely detailed cars and trucks, Brekina for classic cars, Busch for vehicles and scenery sets, Rietze for buses and emergency vehicles, AWM for haulage trucks. And with the Faller Car System, the cars even drive around the layout by themselves.

Era and authenticity

As on the rails, the road vehicles must match the period: a 1970s Mercedes looks as out of place in an era III scene as a pre-war DKW next to an ICE. The era overview helps with matching – for a coherent picture of railway, road and buildings.
