Cadillac models
Tail fins at 1:87: the 90 Cadillac models in the catalogue are among the most eye-catching cars you can put on a layout. At the centre stands the 1959 Eldorado with its extreme fins, joined by the Coupé and Sedan deVille, the Fleetwood and special bodies such as the Meteor ambulance. The ’59 Eldorado as a focal point
No other car stands for the American fifties quite like the Cadillac Eldorado of the 1959 model year. On a layout it works better as a single piece than in a row: one example outside the hotel or on the station forecourt sets the accent, whereas a whole car park full of fins quickly looks overdone. The catalogue lists it as a saloon and as an open cabrio.
Hearses and ambulances
One peculiarity of the marque: in the USA, Cadillac chassis were the usual basis for ambulances and funeral vehicles. Coachbuilders such as Meteor supplied the bodies. These models sit with the emergency services and make a rewarding addition to US street scenes of eras III and IV.
