Christmas models in H0 – collector series, dioramas and gift ideas
Hardly any theme has accompanied model railways as long as Christmas. Many manufacturers release their own Christmas models – usually in small runs and available for one season only. That is exactly what makes them interesting to collectors: completing a series takes years of attention.
Christmas cars as an annual series
The best known format is the annual Christmas car. A freight or passenger car receives festive printing with the year and appears only once, during Advent. Because a new design follows every year, a complete run builds up over time. Christmas market and winter diorama
Besides the cars there is everything a winter scene needs: market stalls, fir trees, snow cover, illuminated houses and matching figures. Many modellers build a small diorama from these that only comes out during Advent – a manageable project that works without a large layout.
Your first layout under the tree
Christmas is traditionally when many people start with model railways. If you want to give a starter set as a present or begin yourself, you will find complete packages with locomotive, cars, track oval and transformer under starter sets. Pay attention to the current system above all: Märklin runs on AC, most other manufacturers on DC – the two cannot easily be mixed later.
