The BR 140 (pre-1968: E40) was developed from 1957 as a universal freight electric locomotive of the DB standard-class series. With 879 units it was the most numerous electric locomotive of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and shaped freight and mixed services for four decades. Märklin/Trix, Roco, Piko and Brawa offer H0 models in all liveries — from the original steel-blue scheme to the Verkehrsrot of DB Cargo.
Highly sought are the original DB steel-blue version (Era III), the chrome-oxide green livery (freight variant), the Ozeanblau-Beige livery of the late 1970s, the Verkehrsrot of DB Cargo (Era V/VI) and special models like 140 423 with central buffer coupling.
