The TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) has been in service since 1981 (Paris–Lyon) and is the symbol of French high-speed rail. SNCF operates it at top speeds of 300–320 km/h. The international Thalys (PBKA) and the original Eurostar were also derived from the TGV platform. In H0 scale, Mehano traditionally leads the TGV range, complemented by Lima (classic models), Jouef, Märklin/Trix (Thalys), L.S.Models, Roco and Hornby France.
The most important variants are available: TGV Sud-Est (PSE, the oldest generation, orange/grey), TGV Atlantique (blue/silver), TGV Réseau, TGV Duplex (double-deck, since 1996), TGV POS (for Germany/Switzerland), Thalys PBKA (red/grey) and the classic Eurostar (yellow/white/blue, technically TGV-based).
