The BR 52 was developed in 1942 as a war locomotive (KL 1) — a simplified and rapidly producible variant of the BR 50. Almost 6,700 units were built before the end of the war, making it one of the most numerous steam locomotives in the world. After 1945 it remained in service with many European state railways, and in East Germany was even modernised as the rebuilt BR 52.80. Märklin/Trix, Roco, Brawa, Fleischmann and Liliput offer extensive H0 models.
Highly sought are the original Wehrmacht version in DRG black (Era II), the post-war locomotives with Witte deflectors, the DR rebuild BR 52.80 with new boiler and the foreign operator versions: ÖBB class 52, ČSD řada 555.0, PKP Ty2 and MÁV class 520. Filter by manufacturer, era or DCC sound.
