Register nowAll H0-scale models of the BR 50 at a glance: the lighter sister of the BR 44 as a universal freight standard-class steam locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1:87 scale. With over 3,100 units built, it was one of the most numerous steam locomotives in Germany — in service with DRG, DR and DB from 1939 until the late 1980s.
Built from 1939 as a universal freight locomotive with reduced axle load — as successor to the Prussian G 8 and counterpart to the heavy BR 44 — the BR 50 had a 2-10-0 wheel arrangement, two cylinders and 80 km/h top speed. Over 3,100 units shaped freight services at DRG, DR and DB. Märklin/Trix, Roco, Brawa, Fleischmann and Liliput offer H0 models of all variants.
Highly sought are the DRG original with Wagner deflectors (Era II), the war-emergency variant (ÜK) without front skirt, the post-war Witte-deflector variant and the DR rebuild as class 50.35 with new high-performance boiler. The Reichsbahn special class 50.40 prototypes are also popular. Filter by manufacturer, era or DCC sound.
